Freedom isn't free

Landon's father was KIA in Afghanistan a month before he was born.  The sacrifices are not evenly distributed across society.  Remember Landon, and the other kids who won't see a parent who laid their ultimate sacrifice on the altar of our freedom.

Rest in Peace, LCPL Carpenter.

Via Theo, who I wish would post a link to a fund for little Landon.

Damn it... got this piece of dust in my eye...

Sumbitch, Borepatch, why'd you have to go and do this to me today? I'm already all emotioned up and girly about my firstborn and how damned cute she is (she just started walking a couple weeks ago. Sh just turned 11 months yesterday). My manly cred is just about spent and i blame you!

That beign said, I might be espousing a rather unpopular opinion here, but I'm coming out with it anyway.

The stability and status of that goddamned backwater hell hole isn't worth the blood of one single solitary America father, or the son who will now grow up without him, all so that a bunch of afghans who wouldn't do it for themselves can continue to be backwards third world tribalists who will just get themselves into the same mess again once we leave, no matter how long we stay.

Our mission in Afghanistan was complete in 2004. No further American blood needed be shed there. The afghans are going to destabilize and have a civil war no matter what we do or how long we stay or how many little boys grow up without their Dad. We've accomplished the mission that is important to America (getting the Taliban and smashing Al Qaeda in Astan). We did that in 2004. We just forgot to leave and because of that, this little boy will never know his Dad. It pisses me off.

Goober, I agree. There's no way to build a stable, western society there. We kicked the Taliban. We should get out.

I quite frankly don't see a "victory" scenario more than "the Taliban and bin Laden are gone."

Damn it! That's enough of this "freedom isn't free" bullshit! Every time I hear that stupid cliche I get really angry. Wake up! He wasn't fighting for freedom. He was murdered by his cowardly politicians in Washington, and bad foreign policy. At least look the truth in the eye and be man to face it. More will be victims, many more will die until things are changed. We start a land war in Iran, it will be orders of magnitude worse.

You want to fight for freedom, then work to restore the Constitution, individual Liberty and stop sending my boys to die.
