The B-17 that crashed yesterday - killing seven and critically injuring another three - was Nine-O-Nine. It came to the local airport near Castle Borepatch a year ago.
It's weird to think that I have been in this bird, and now it's crashed. Here's a video I took of Nine-O-Nine taking off.
The Washington DC cherry trees were originally a gift to the United States from Japan, and the Cherry Blossom Festival has a strong Japan theme. As The Queen Of The World and I wandered past the pavilions, there was this display of swordsmanship.
I wonder if they could even do this sport in the UK, with their silly knife laws.
The B-17 is a surprisingly elegant aircraft, when seen both sitting still and when in motion. The B-24 is list a boxcar, but the Flying Fortress is graceful.
Seen at the Frederick, MD airport today. More later.
UPDATE 12 October 2018 16:56: Changed to Youtube embed for video.
#1 Son has been exercising his video-fu. Here's the FNP-9 in slow motion:
And here is classified video from inside the Chez Borepatch secure perimeter. The same location is filmed with low light enhancement off (dark, dark, dark!) and then on.
