Death Valley, California saw the highest temperature ever recorded in the United States - 134° F. In 1913.
Let me put that in perspective: after what we're told has been a century of Global Warming, the highest recorded temperature in this land occurred before the Titanic took her sea trials. That's a century of righteous Global Warming, right there. Pretty neat how it's raising the average temperatures but not the record temperatures.
In other examples of governmental screw-ups, on this day in 1832 President Andy Jackson vetoed the bill re-chartering the Second Bank of America. Obviously, the bill's supporters hadn't explained the virtues of Quantitative Easing to him ...
And in other news of governmental screw-ups, this day in 1940 saw the establishment of the French government in Vichy. To make up for that, the French Secret Service blows up the Greenpeace vessel Rainbow Warrior in New Zealand on this day in 1985. 'nuff said.

Not to pick a nit, Borepatch, but the Titanic went down in 1912… Still, point well taken.
It was 118 here last week.
Does this mean things are cooling?
(joke)
We had a record low down here in Corpus Christi last week, I believe they said the previous record was set over 50 years ago. Yep, it's Gorebal Warming...
BTW, I've lived by (and on) the water my whole life. The sea level hasn't risen at all.
Oh, forgot to mention how my PALM TREES were covered in ICE this winter, and the freeze killed a tree in the back yard, as well as some bushes out front. Warming, yep...
Meanwhile, in Mammoth Mountain (a few hundred miles away) it SNOWED on the 27th of June 2011- a week and a half ago.
GLOBAL WARMING!!!
Silly man, trying to use science to make sense of information. Climate change is a religion. Belief is required. Heresy will not be tolerated.
And yet the WWF still runs commercials on television, one of which I saw earlier today, whining about the how the polar bear habitat and population is growing...er declining, and won't you please adopt a polar bear by donating.
cuz we've grown really accustomed to our corporate offices and expensive cars...
Sorry that was my delete. Don't type without the reading glasses.
I was landing somewhere in a southwest installation and the recorded weather info for the runway had the temperature at 126. When we checked in with tower he said "but it's a DRY heat". Not caring about protocol OR the FCC I responded "So's my f'ing oven but I don't intend to park my plane in it."
