OK, so they turned their yard into an eyesore. It's their yard.
The City is coming after them, charging them with a misdemeanor violation of an ordinance requiring at least 40% of each yard to be covered with live plants. Of course, the Hippies are shocked. Shocked:

My lawn is a mix of weeds, moss, and various non-matching strains of grass. So long as its green it looks good to me!

It's funny that they haven't run into CA big government before now. How those people can accept their government, I'll never know.
I bet it feels a bit funny for them, leaving the matrix and having to use brains that have atrophied through lack of use...
