Polycarbonate is indeed much tougher than acrylic, but in real life, you're more likely to run into the very first example - a small rock tossed up by another vehicle - than you are any of the other mechanisms of windshield failure. I've never been hit by a rock, but there seems to be some type of heavy armored beetle that bounces off my (full-face) helmet with quite a clang about twice a week. Not exactly an earth-shaking boom, but I'm always glad for the protection.

Yep, Lexan IS good stuff, albeit quite a bit more expensive!!!
