#1 Son is in the Motorcycle Safety Class tonight and through the weekend. I've insisted that he do this before he rides. It's a Dad's job to be the Safety Nazi for his kids.
But #1 Son isn't just starting to ride, he's getting ready for his Cisco certification, which will be the gateway to his first real job. Soon he'll head out on his own journey as an adult. You want to see your son grow to Honorable Manhood, and so this is gratifying indeed.
But damn.
How the hell did I get so old? I mean, it was just last year that he was just like this:
Now he's a bad-ass biker dude. Damn, I feel old.

I know the feeling. Mine just turned 27 a couple of weeks ago, and it seems like just yesterday wife #1 and I were bringing him home from the hospital.....
Yup. My 3 kept us so busy I didn't realize I was getting old until just recently. My two oldest are married, one with 2 kids, and my youngest just started college this fall. When he's at school or at work I sit here and wonder where everybody went, and if we did a good enough job raising them.
But then I turn on the Xbox and listen to the little foul-mouthed snots playing Call of Duty and I know we did it right.
I want to drink beers with you guys.
Anytime, my friend, anytime.....
Cherish him, buddy!
Best Wishes to you both,
gfa
I know the feelings. My son went to school to learn motorcycle repair and at the age of 26 owns his own shop. I'm convinced that he works on them jut for the test rides. He found a good country girl and have two kids with another on the way.
Life around the house is a lot different now. The wife has only me to blame things on, and I kind of miss having all of the friends he used to bring home around. I'm medically retired now, but I work part-time at the motorcycle shop and seasonally at a local haunted attraction. I don't feel my age until I've tried to keep up with the under 20 gang.
With you all the way on this one. Our lad passed his full (UK) bike licence last year, and has a full-time job and his own apartment.
It's a comfort that he's turned out well despite my mistakes....
It's taken my wife and I about 18 months to get (sort of) used to the fact that he is now living 160 miles away.
I still remember the moment he was placed in my arms by the O.R. nurse, and his first bottle feed (12fl.oz.) followed by a 12 hour sleep.
Yes, I feel old now...... but at least I can meet up with him on the bike at times for a little touring.
Regards,
Bryn (North Wales, UK).
My daughter is two. My only one so far.
You guys are all really old
*ducks behind a wall*
Wow, really good at not feeding the trolls around here... either that or you're all down for a nap right now...
