"It's not surveillance of people they think are guilty. It's surveillance of people they think are innocent."

Mikko Hypponen is the Chief Research Officer at F-Secure, one of the better antivirus companies.  He's one of the security True Believers who has spent his career fighting the Good Security Fight.  I've written about how NSA has made the True Believers angry.  You can hear it in his voice here.

The level of anger that the NSA has created among the community of Good Guys is hard to estimate, but it likely bigger than anyone thinks.  Right now, the NSA can still buy talent, but they have to pay for cooperation they used to get for free.  The best security guys are probably no longer available, because they're not the type that can be bought (they're the best - they have options).  Mykko is one of the best.

This issue will not go away, not with the people who matter.  Silicon Valley needs to listen to this, or they need to start offering negative financial guidance in their upcoming quarterly reports.
