Wynn Stewart - I Keep Forgettin' I Forgot About You

Country music values a clever turn of phrase, and a thousand songs have been little more than a place to hang a funny or memorable line.  Wynn Stewart was what we'd today consider a second string singer in the  1960s and 70s, but his influence went far beyond the series of clever song he wrote (Another Day, Another Dollar and Love Ain't Worth A Dime Unless It's Free were two of his other memorable hits).

Stewart "found" Merle Haggard, signed him to his band, and wrote his his first few songs that Haggard used to get started.  Buck Owens later said that Stewart was a major influence on his sound, and Owens was a major influence on Ringo Starr. Along the way, he managed to collect most of Lefty Frizzell's band.

That's a portrait of a generous man, one who deserves more fame then he ended with.
