I was going through the iPhone, transferring everything off of His Steveness' Domain into the shiny new Android phone when I ran across something that made me stop short.
It was a voice mail from Dad.
Months ago, he called to see how I was doing. Fighting the cancer that ultimately took him, he was calling to cheer me up.
I'll keep that.

Save it. Download it.
That choked me up.
It must have been nice to hear that BP. I agree with what North said..:)
Wow that had to be a kick in the gut emotion wise, but sounds like in a good way.
Take care,
Josh
That's wonderful! I had the same thing happen a couple of years ago. I found a voicemail from my wife from when she was in the same situation as your father. It was just a reminder to bring home some things from the store, but sometimes the "normal" things are the biggest comfort.
Aw, darnit, I got something in my eye now.
My mother has been gone for over 18 years. Several years after she died, I was looking through a box of stuff from her house for something specific, and came upon her old cassette tape answering machine.
The grief I experienced listening to her voice again brings tears to my eyes just typing this so many years later.
I’m glad you have a digital piece of him to remind you.
During one of the last video-calls with my dad, I took a picture of the computer screen. I can't look at the pic yet, but I know it's there.
What a wonderful yet heart-wrenching discovery. Save it, as the others said.
I'm so glad you found it. What a bittersweet thing!
I deliberately save some voicemails in perpetuity, just so I have them but to find one by accident like that is a true blessing.
Maybe your dad is checking in with you, just saying 'hi', and letting you know he's okay.
There's two voicemails from Joe on the answering machine. Nothing special, just calls from Afghanistan when he first arrived and we weren't home. Somehow, neither one of us wanted to delete them and there they sit. I have to scroll past them to hear new messages. And as far as know, he's fine, but there they are and I expect they will be there until he gets home.
I deliberately kept several answering machine messages from my Mom when she was going through that. It takes all I've got to listen to them now, even two years hence, but they're among my most valued possessions.
I'm glad you have that to remind you.
I have one saved that is over 4 yrs old of my youngest who stopped talking.
Glad you have it, we can remember people for many reasons w these VM's.
