Driver's License, Class CM

In my wallet.  Now to finding a bike.  The local Harley dealer had a 2005 Sportster for under $5k, which is pretty tempting, especially since it has the rubber-mounted engine to reduce vibration.

Onward!

UPDATE 16 July 2013 18:58: Stretch email with this awesome Harley-Davidson accessory.  Want.

Bet ASM826 would go riding with that ...

Congratulations sir. You won't regret it. Not until you get a bike and start buying gear anyway. It's amazing how the price of an item of clothing can go up 200% when you imply it's for riding.

You know, there -are- other bikes besides Harleys. Just like there are other operating systems besides Linux, and other handguns besides 1911s.

(Fire in the hole!)

Good choice. You won't regret it. Re. my previous: the sportys went to EFI in 2007, but were rubber-mount in 2005. My bad.

Riding 2-up on a sporty is... problematic. I've been there. If you're gonna go 2-up, swap the stock shocks for Progressive 440 Heavy Duty - you can do this yourself in your own garage in about an hour.

Yes, if unaltered Thompsons were an available accessory, I would be standing at the door when the Harley dealer opened tomorrow.

The Sportster is a nice bike, but not for longer rides or 2 up riding. If you have your heart set on a Harley spend a little more and look at a Dyna or Softail. Your keester and spine will thank you.

Instead of rubber mounts to control vibration, you could consider more cylinders...although to be fair, there aren't enough modern 4's suitable for grown ups.
