I'm in Austin until Friday. I'm not sure if I have any readers here in the Capital of the Lone Star State, but if anyone wants to meet up for beer, leave a comment or send an email.
Also, if anyone has a recommendation for BBQ, I'd be mighty obliged.

I'm not in Austin but I have a BBQ recommendation for you. The Salt Lick.
Be prepared to Drive a good bit out of town. When you think you've gone too far go a little farther. Also be prepared it is CASH ONLY!! Atm onsite. When I got the recommendation we were not told this. Luckily we had enough cash on hand.

Salt Lick is a winner, and worth the drive.
What Aretae said. You're within spitting distance of Lockhart. Hie thee hence, pick a place and gorge. Next meal, go to another and repeat.
The Green Mesquite at,1400 Barton Springs Road, Austin, TX 78704, is pretty good. A little further west on Barton Spring is Uncle Billy's a micro brewery with a decent slab if beef: 1530 Barton Springs Road, Austin, TX 78704.
A couple places to start. They're close to down town and near Zilker park off of Lamar.
Josh : e-mails on my profile.
I would join you, but I'm in Dallas. Austin is like a second or third home for me though. Had family there, and get there for business a couple of times a year. I've never eaten at Salt Lick, but I have it on good authority that it is to die for. If you don't want to drive that far, Ironworks has a location downtown near the convention center that provides really good barbeque (http://www.ironworksbbq.com/about-us.asp). If, however, you like Tex-Mex, you cannot leave Austin without sampling the original Chuy's on Barton Springs Rd. just south of downtown (http://www.chuys.com/). Ask for the creamy jalapeno with your chips and salsa and thank me later. Only order the Elvis Presley Memorial Combo is you are really hungry or have a friend who is willing to split the plates.
Ya a lot of good food on Barton Springs Road.
:-)
Josh
try iron works if you are downtown.

I'm only an hour and half to two hours southeast of Austin, but don't think I could make it up there on such short notice!
Rudy's is good for BBQ. Also, you really need to find some good TexMex, though not sure what up there in Austin.
It's beautiful up there though! Too bad it's full of smelly hippie college kids.
I'm about two hours S.W. of Austin.
Too Bad "Vote for David" doesn't read your blog, he lives there.
I live near Austin too.
