Actually, they're very nice. They're also infested with turkeys.
Nobody hunts here in the western Boston suburbs, so the fauna is entirely unafraid of humans. I took this picture at about ten feet. If TEOTWAWKI ever comes to play in the Boston Suburbs, people will eat well for a couple weeks. Assuming that they have a shotgun.
Which they don't.

Someone has weapons there, BP, you can bet on it. If TEOTWAWKI happens, they'd bring them out.
We've gotem... and ducks, geese, rabbits, deer etc... up here in North Idaho.
There are certainly hunters here, but the animals outnumber us so much they don't much care...
Pretty cheeky considering how close it is to Thanksgiving.
Got any subsonic .22?
Scrawny little suburban hens... but I bet they'd turn into good soup stock.
Hell... you could camouflage yourself in that stack of boxes and just reach out and grab one when they come close :)
one word "SNARES" and a copy of a SERE manual.
I've been tempted to buy some fire crackers in NH, and set them off for fun....then the next time a tasty critter walks through my yard, pop it, and toss exploded fire crackers around the yard. Skin kill under cover of darkness. : )
Archery.
Yes, turkeys that aren't hunted can be downright casual about human presence and even gunfire.
We had a jake stroll across the middle of our 200 yd range at the gunclub twice during a rifle match. (No hunting allowed on club property) Seemed totally unconcerned about those projectiles whizzing by above his head.
