This used to be Detroit

The Willow Run Bomber Plant.

This factory built 650 B-24 bombers a month.  GM shut it down in 2009, when the company became the People's Automotive Collective #1.  Sic transit Gloria Mundi.

Waht really gets me shivvering (and even scared of zombies) is the Denver Post photo section the ran: The Ruins of Detroit - so sad and not just a little bit scary.

Be prepared for what might transpire in Mexico.

It breaks your heart to see what we've let happen.
Willow Run after the war.

and How Willow Run was built.

Detroit was once a city to be proud of - look at Shorpy for views in the teens and twenties - and the sad remnants that still exist. Truly "The Arsenal of Democracy" in its day (much more than just the Willow Run plant)

Don't know when the decline truly started, but the city never recovered from the 67 riots. It was 4th largest city in 1960 - 18th now between Charlotte, NC and El Paso, TX and falling.

Still proud to be from there, but like most Texans I've met, I'm proud of a place I won't live in anymore.
