29. That all that's on this list that I've been to. I thought I'd done more traveling than that. (There may be some that I went to when I was a kid that I can't remember). Kind of a fun game, matching your travels to the song.
I've Been Everywhere (Songwriter: Geoff Mack)
I was totin' my packWell this is all good fun, but at this point I have to say this was cheating. Geoff Mack is Australian, and the song was originally recorded by fellow Aussie Lucky Starr. All the places are Down Under, so my score actually is zero (OK, I've been to Sydney, but it's not in the song).
Along the dusty Winnemucca road
When along came a semi
With a high and canvas covered load
"If you're going to Winnemucca, Mack
With me you can ride."
So I climbed into the cab
And then I settled down inside
He asked me if I'd seen a road
With so much dust and sand
And I said,
"Listen, Bud I've traveled every road in this here land."
I've been everywhere, man
I've been everywhere, man
'Cross the deserts bare, man
I've breathed the mountain air, man
Of travel, I've had my share, man
I've been everywhere.
Been to Reno, Chicago, Fargo, Minnesota,
Buffalo, Toronto, Winslow, Sarasota,
Wichita, Tulsa, Ottawa, Oklahoma,
Tampa, Panama, Mattawa, La Paloma,
Bangor, Baltimore, Salvador, Amarillo,
Tocopilla, Barranquilla, and Padilla, I'm a killer.
I've been everywhere, man
I've been everywhere, man
'Cross the deserts bare, man
I've breathed the mountain air, man
Of travel, I've had my share, man
I've been everywhere.
Boston, Charleston, Dayton, Louisiana,
Washington, Houston, Kingston, Texarkana,
Monterey, Ferriday, Santa Fe, Tallapoosa
Glen Rock, Black Rock, Little Rock, Oskaloosa,
Tennessee, Hennessey, Chicopee, Spirit Lake,
Grand Lake, Devil's Lake, Crater Lake, for Pete's sake;
I've been everywhere, man
I've been everywhere, man
'Cross the deserts bare, man
I've breathed the mountain air, man
Of travel, I've had my share, man
I've been everywhere.
Louisville, Nashville, Knoxville, Ombabika,
Shefferville, Jacksonville, Waterville, Costa Rica,
Pittsfield, Springfield, Bakersfield, Shreveport,
Hackensack, Cadillac, Fond Du Lac, Davenport,
Idaho, Jellicoe, Argentina, Diamontina,
Pasadena, Catalina, see what I mean, sir;
I've been everywhere, man
I've been everywhere, man
'Cross the deserts bare, man
I've breathed the mountain air, man
Of travel, I've had my share, man
I've been everywhere.
Pittsburgh, Parkersburg, Gravelbourg, Colorado,
Ellensburg, Rexburg, Vicksburg, Eldorado,
Larrimore, Atmore, Haverstraw, Chattanika,
Chaska, Nebraska, Alaska, Opelika,
Baraboo, Waterloo, Kalamazoo, Kansas City,
Sioux City, Cedar City, Dodge City, what a pity;
I've been everywhere, man
I've been everywhere, man
'Cross the deserts bare, man
I've breathed the mountain air, man
Of travel, I've had my share, man
I know some place you haven't been.
I've been everywhere.
But hope is not lost: there's a Great Britain version!
Twelve. I'd call that jolly good for a Colonial.
There's also a New Zealand version. And a Beer version. There are actually over 130 different versions, recorded pretty much everywhere, man. Pretty cool.

Ha, oh my god!!!! It really does say Baraboo in the song.
My farm here in Wisconsin has a mailing address of Baraboo, Wi. In this area we have a local singing group called the "Swing Crew" that always sings this song. I thought they just popped the name Baraboo in the song for "local" flavor.
Seeesh, I should have known better. Ha, thanks for straightening me out.

What a timely post!
I heard this on the radio last night and thought "need to learn that on guitar tomorrow".
...and then plum forgot overnight.
Thanks for the reminder. Printing it out now, going to plug in the amp and go to town!
A hitchhiker in Winnemucca, and he's never been to Salt Lake? ;)
There's also a TEXAS version, by Texas singer-songwriter Brian Burns:

The original version of I've Been Everywhere was written and sung by Rolf Harris.

When Harris shopped his works to a U.S. publishing company it was suggested he rewrite Everywhere with US place names.
Rewritten by Harris the U.S. version was recorded by Hank Snow:

Besides the Australian, US. and UK versions, there is also a version from Scotland and one that seems to be in Croatian.

The version I grew up listening to in Australia was sung by Slim Dusty.
OK. Inspiration for a new blog post: The Borepatch Travel Game.

You guys are awesome. ;-)
But Quizikle, you scare me. ;-)
Kudos for listing the Aussie version. Like Anonymous above, I grew up with the Slim Dusty one. I didn't know there was an American one until I moved there in the 90s.
