My son-in-law shipped out today. He made Chief a year or so back, but that came with the proviso of another tour at sea. His wife and kids are great, and the military families at home look after each other.
But deployment is deployment, and it's a long time to be away from hearth and home.
Remember that they do it for us.

Is he in a service where occasional emails or other updates are possible, or blocked off for the duration?
It's a bit easier with those contacts, but it's still deployment and away. Good luck to him and family still at home.

Same here -- best wishes for a safe and uneventful deployment. My older son is at Fort Bliss, about 15 months into his enlistment.
We will keep him in our thoughts and prayers.
We here at the Old Folks Home keep all those deployed in our prayers. Adding one more is no problem. Till they all come home.

Ken, Dad was at Ft. Bliss in the Army. My older brother was born in El Paso because Dad was stationed there.
