Ok, here is a question. With IoT devices, what are the chances that a cracker will be able to remotely tell a device that its lithium-ion battery needs charging until.....?
The approach is easy. Just reset the charge level bar graph display so that it reads as 20% charged when it is actually 100%. The problem is that the graphic is likely part of the device "firmware" and not that accessible.
