Blogging from Europe

I'm in Copenhagen with a layover before flying on to Vienna and then by car to Bratislava. The layover gave me the opportunity to see the town which I had never done before.

This is, of course, the statue of Hans Christian Anderson's Little Mermaid. It was a little disappointing, but the rest of the city is pretty nice.

Posting will be spotty for a couple days.

UPDATE: More Copenhagen here.

Keep your head on a swivel over there.

I think it was about four or five years ago that Mark Steyn presciently said that Americans had about five years left to see the great capitals of Europe. It will be a few more years before they blow up places like the Cathedral of Notre Dame in a repeat of the Afghan statues of Buddha, but it looks like it's coming.

Can't do Copenhagen justice on a layover. You must visit it for at least several days. That said, one of my favorite experiences in Copenhagen happened during a layover (actually while waiting for the bus to the ferry prior to the building of the bridge to Malmo).

It was early morning and we had some time to spend so we went to a cafe for, of course, coffee and a danish. As I was sitting there a bunch of elderly women, dressed all in black and wearing black, clumpy frumpy shoes like elderly women sometimes do, entered the cafe and occupied a nearby table. Into time at all they each had fired up a cigar and received a beer from the waitress. What a country.
