One death is a tragedy, a million deaths are a statistic

OldAFSarge has today's must read post in which he brings three brave men back from statistics and makes them - for a moment frozen in time - men again.  The pictures taken of the moments leading up to these men's death highlight the million tragedies that was the second World War.

Some things are so big that our minds cannot really grasp them, and that conflict is one of them.  Rather than stepping backwards so as to better see the entirety of the war, OLDAFSarge zooms in, magnifying the focus until we can see clearly what the mind absolutely can wrap itself around.
