75 years ago tonight, they jumped

Your task will not be an easy one. Your enemy is well trained, well equipped and battle hardened. He will fight savagely.
- Dwight Eisenhower, Order of the Day for 6 June 1944

And they fought through being in the wrong places, separated from their units, and without officers in some cases. Yet they triumphed by sheer perseverance, never giving up, and just plain guts.

Old NFO, the jump was a Charlie Foxtrot. They pulled it off anyway.

Dr. Jim, that's a cool story.

Long story, but...
I was in the audience during a high school presentation that was supposed to discourage young people from using illicit drugs.
One of less than respectful kids asked one of the adults in the room if he had ever used drugs.
The adult sharply replied, "No."
Then, with a thoughtful expression said, "Except one time. The day I jumped with the 101st on D-Day. When I went out the door I injected myself with morphine, because I figured that I was going to die anyway and if I lived I would be so shot up that I would need the morphine for pain. I puked all the way down."
