I've resisted putting up blog ads here because I don't want to annoy you, gentle reader. However, the traffic here has been ramping up (thank you, gentle reader) and when Captain Capitalism was here he said that I should make the jump.
And alas for my stoutness of heart, it might pay for the better part of a motorcycle. Sigh - I'm a bit chastened to see just how low is the price for my principles ...
And so, gentle reader - do you care if I put ads up? Also, if anyone is actually making some money on their blog ads, please shoot me an email.

As long as they're useful, interesting, and unobtrusive, I actually like ads on gun blogs. I always make a point to white-list ads for any blog that I like that has them.
No problem here, I have no problem supporting people with similar views financially especially if their content is good. So go on with your bad self.
I don't but that's strictly because I don't have the traffic for it. If I did I'd be jumping on that wagon with both feet. I'd say at least give it a try. You can always dump them if it becomes an issue. Plus, it gives you an additional motivation to provide us with more free ice cream!!
Agree: as long as they're subject-related to your blog. And if YOU choose them, they might be something I'm interested in.
Don't have a blog, so no dog in the fight, but I'm in agreement with burt. It's always disconcerting to see an ad supporting an issue you've been ranting against in your blog. Happens frequently enough at instapundit.
I actively block ads, so it does not make a viewing difference to me. However, I will point out two things:
First, the time will come when you say: i am going to post this post not because I believe it, but at least I will make a few bucks off of it.
Second, the time will come when someone will be infected by the ads you place: Ad servers are high visibility, high profit, high value targets for creating botnets and such. It is not a matter of if someone gets infected via agency Y you choose, but when
If the ads are from Google then it's a deal with the devil, plus remember you have to pay taxes on the revenue or the IRS can stomp all over you.
Also to avoid liability then you might have to incorporate your website, when money gets involved speak to a corporation lawyer first.
No objection here, of course. I would ask Tam and Jay. They seem to have handled it. I will click on their ads, thinking it sends money their way, but then, I don't have the foggiest idea of what is involved in setting it up.
But passive income is kind of wonderful, and it should go a long ways to help with the motorcycle and Garand fund.
Some of the "increased traffic" might be those of us who have to hit the link 4 or 5 times to get your blog to stay visible. It seems to be just with some of the east coast blogs I read. Is there something wrong with Google's servers out there? Are they renting server space to zero care by chance?
It took me 21 months to make $100 on blogads. I concluded that the money that I was making from them wasn't worth the aggravation to my readers.
If you can get sum coin for ammo, go for it.
Although, you put a great deal of pressure on yourself to post.
Somehow, I don't see another metric by which to measure your incredibly prolific output a necessarily healthy thing.
just sayin.
"Does anyone make any money on blog ads?"
I imagine Google does. I don't see why you can't get a piece of the action.
Thanks for the comments, everyone.
go for it
Seriously? You've been providing awesome free content for us all for years, and you think we'd begrudge you getting something in return? You're a good man. Post your ads.
When I had google ads on my blog I think I made about 5 cents in a year. Course, you have a 100times more traffic than I do!
I make enough to cover my hosting and a little extra. I don't think the Google Ads are worth it. Never got a payout from them.
Go for it.
Readers and commenters should remember that the ads will not be tied to Borepatch and his interests, but tied to your interests. The internet keeps track of what you are interested in, and will show ads it thinks are interesting to you.
I see really weird ads, but it doesn't take me long to figure out why I'm seeing what I see; usually, it's something I was researching a while back.
This is YOUR blog and I think you should do as you see fit.
My 2c.
If it would help pay for the Bike then DO EEEET! Hell I might find something I just can't live without ;)
Go ahead,
I'll ignore them just like I ignore the rest :-)
