What will the reaction be?

Old NFO has a must-read post up about what's going on with Government overreach.  It's impossible to do it justice by excerpting, and not to be missed.

It makes me wonder just how far people and institutions in this country will allow this to go.  Some people in government are, as Old NFO says, drunk with power.  They are enamored by what Christopher Hitchens referred to as the "pornography of power".

But not all are.  Even the New York Times' editorial board flinched, if only briefly.  The Huffington Post and even Daily Kos are muttering with discomfort.  The dynamic has yet to play out.

Because a dynamic it is.  Even the Roman Emperors refused to take the title Rex (King).  Obama is a teflon President, with scandal (so far) not yet to stick.  But he has no heir apparent.  Many people in Progressive institutions will be wondering what the Country's reaction will be.  While the core are drunk with power, we see that many are already questioning the path that we're on.  The future of the Progressive movement is being cast in question.

I don't see how this plays out, but play out it must.

The more that comes out, the more I think that this might be the largest crisis in the history of our country.

Think about that. This could be bigger than the Civil War, World War II, or the Cold War.

The potential consequences are terrifying, no matter how it plays out.
