A British sniper shot dead five Taliban gunmen in just 28 seconds to save the lives of comrades walking into an ambush.
The marksman felled the rebels from more than a mile away as they prepared to attack troops on foot patrol in Afghanistan.
...Former SAS commander Andy McNab said: 'To bring down five targets in less than 30 seconds is a real achievement. When shot at, humans react just like animals. There are a couple of seconds where they will freeze, then they hit the ground or run.
'In this case the sniper would have had to hit, and kill, a moving target at a considerable distance.'
Jolly well done to the unidentified (for security reasons) sniper. Perhaps we can get a friendly competition going with our boys in the 'stan? First team to 100? I'll buy the beer!

While I have a little trouble with the idea of going three for three at 2700 yards with .338 Lapua Magnum, I can much more easily believe five hits out of 14 or so at 1600 yards in under 30 seconds. This is a considerable feat in its own right, particularly with a bolt-action rifle and five-round magazines.

The quotation makes it sound like McNab was the commanding officer of the whole SAS regiment, when in fact he was a highly decorated senior NCO, now an action book writer.
