Upstanding exemplar and protector of Family Values™ , Rep. Mark Souder:
Rep. Mark Souder (R-IN), a champion of abstinence education and traditional family values, will resign effective Friday after an affair with a female staffer in his district office, he announced today.Twisted for political gain? Sort of like being tough on people whose lifestyle doesn't meet your definition of "Family Values"?
He said in a statement that he "sinned against God, my wife and my family by having a mutual relationship with a part-time member of my staff." And he blamed the atmosphere in Washington for forcing him to make the move:
"In the poisonous environment of Washington, D.C., any personal failing is seized upon, often twisted, for political gain."
And Washington made me do it? Go read the words from ASM826:
Let's go over this again. When caught out with "the other woman", do not bother to act sorry. You are not sorry you did this, because it was great, hot, illicit sex, and you enjoyed every moment of it. At least stand up and say, "Damn, I'm sorry you caught me."Weak. And hypocritical.
Otherwise, tell the truth. Tell us what she was like and how much fun it was. This whiny apology crap makes you look weak and nobody, not me, not the press, not your political cronies, and certainly not your wife, believes a word of it.
From the other side of the aisle, we find Richard Blumenthal, running for Senate in Connecticut. Seems he has the courage to crow about his war record in Vietnam, but not the courage to actually, you know, go fight in Vietnam:
The Attorney General of Connecticut, Richard Blumenthal, gave a speech in 2008 where he spoke of his service in Vietnam and the need to honor today's veterans of theAmen, brother. And I'm sure that we'll hear all the bien pensants on the left chiming in with a chorus of chickenhawk! in 3 ... 2 ... 1 ...Long WarWar on Terrorwhatever the hell we are doing in Iraq and Afghanistan. He has been quoted often about his service in Vietnam. Now he is running as a Democratic candidate for the U.S. Senate.
The problem is that Mr. Blumenthal was never there.
...
What I have no time for is someone who inflates their service history, especially for political gain. He is stealing the the honor of men who went and served in combat while he took five different deferments to avoid the very war that he has been claiming to have fought in.

Notice also the reactions of the respective parties and the slimy politicians themselves. Souder has announced his resignation from office. Blumenthal is blaming staff, the NY Times, political enemies, and anyone else that he can think of. He only misspoke a few times out of hundreds of times he mentioned his military service. He was "unclear" about what he said. Blah, blah, blah.
I hope Blumenthal hangs in until it's too late to replace him. Then again maybe the Connecticut Supreme Court is like the NJ Supreme Court and legal deadlines are meaningless when a political seat is at stake for the privileged.
The whole system stinks. As some smart blogger I know says, "Vote them all out".
Or maybe, "The only good politician is an ousted politician".
It isn't the politicians that are the farce, it is the whole system.

I'm of the opinion that more firearms education for women would significantly decrease incidents of men cheating on their wives. What's the rate of infidelity in Texas?
Well Lissa, if you listen to country music, it's pretty high. :) In real life, I don't know.
Go to youtube and listen to Pistol Packing Mama.
Unsurprisingly, Willie Nelson as a killer version of the song. Maybe Lissa will do a Redneck Country Music post!
