I'll spare him (or her) more than just one thought. Even in today's Army/Navy/Marines, as skilled and dedicated as the men and women are, the wardogs are Something Special.
Unsung heroes our dogs of war are! Google: Stubby The American Pit Bull Terrier during WW2.
Not to mention the service dogs in Vietnam as they literally saved thousands of American lives during that conflict. Some, had to be left behind because of no room left in the choppers during the fall of Hanoi. Vietnam veterans today still mourn the dogs which were left there to fend for themselves and credit their own lives saved by them.
