I never went winter camping like that

I'd go winter camping in Maine when I was in Boy Scouts, which was great fun.  This, I'm not sure about.  As I was once told by an (ex) submariner, why would anyone who didn't have to go onto a submarine?

Yeah, I really liked winter camping. Especially when there was a bright moon, and you could hike at night with no lights.

I never did like the idea of camping on the ice though. Ice was too unpredictable in our area.

That's a Navy boot camp joke - - never volunteer to serve aboard a ship that sinks on purpose, and never volunteer to jump out of a perfectly good airplane.

+1 on Bob... and I don't see any Polar Bears in that photo... They must not have gotten there yet!

Bob beat me to it; and it should be noted that submariners volunteer for that duty.

It's still not logical, though. :)

Pfft. Why would anyone want to put to sea in a ship that's not designed to come back up after it goes under?!?

RabidAlien has it right! I'm a little upset that I never got to walk the ice at the north pole, but we were making really good time from CT to Japan...

A little secret from a former bubblehead ... they do give you a psych test before submarine school. We used to say, if you pass the psych test, they won't let you in.
