Friday gun pr0n: Lee-Enfield

Stretch emails this delicious pair of Enfields.

Mine has the spike ("Pig Sticker") bayonet you see on the top; the bottom blade bayonet was the style used in the Great War.  That design saw a lot of action over a very long number of years.

My range report on the Enfield is here.

I'm glad you picked up the Friday Gun Pr0n posts, BP. I was starting to miss them ever since JayG went Hollywood on us.

(Just kidding. I'm jealous of both you and Jay for escaping to the land of the free.)

I've been tempted several times to pick up a Lee-Enfield. I'm a sucker for military surplus, and a fine bolt gun is always a pleasure to hold. Plus that sight looks a lot better for old eyes than the notched tangent sight on my Mosin-Nagant.

Um, both of those Enfields are No4s, WWII or later. The spike bayonet on top is WWII, but the blade bayonet on the bottom is a post-WWII bayonet.

The WWI bayonets are for No1MkIII rifles, and are sword bayonets.

Very nice and most impressive.

Technically neither is a Lee-Enfield since that naming convention was dropped before WW2 began and the SMLE Mk III renamed to Rifle No. 1 Mk III.
