I've found some stuff lasts forever and some barely makes the best by date.
One thing to watch is antibiotic ointment - I have found multiple brands that appear ok but have lost their effect at the best by date.

The survival food I've stocked up on supposedly lasts a few decades, but I doubt that we have that long to go. Time will tell.
