I personally think you should make up a serial number for every 80% gun you make. Make up a manufacturer, too, and don't use a name like Colt that's easy for them to check. Everybody in the biz knows there's an uncountable number of companies that make their own ARs. Does anyone think they know every maker of ARs from parts? That horse left the barn ages ago. I just think if you're stopped by a traffic cop, it goes easier to have a serial number on your gun than to have to explain to Officer Nahtso Friendly why it doesn't have one. Just IMO, of course.
That's the same as the serial number on mine: #1
I think if I were finishing 80% lowers, I would start with 3.14 or 3.1416 and them add a digit of pi for every one I completed. It would make sorting them numerically and by manufacture date confusing, though.
