This sort of thing is Peter's gig, but he's off at Blogorado so I'll post it. An Airbus 380 jumbo jet got hit with a massive cross gust just after touchdown at Dusseldorf airport. The pilot's skill is very impressive. I wouldn't have liked being on board that aircraft.

Any Landing you can walk away from is a "Good Landing".
.... and a good landing in a sever cross wind is a Great Landing.
But that plane is in need of a through going over for stress cracks in the tail. Yes a large amount of twist and bend is built in to structure, but that assumes that the whole aircraft is airborne and not partially connected to a nice solid resisting surface.
I agree. Great pilot. Hubby commented that once the tires hit the ground, the plane was really pretty stable.
God was watching over them that day.
I used to fly the Sherpa - we didn't call it the "flying billboard" for nothing. Crosswinds were NOT fun.
I've been in a couple that were about that bad, but in MUCH smaller aircraft; 707 and 727.

that the pavement is wet may have reduced some of the side load on the gear due to tires sliding. Still, that was hairy looking. The vertical tail seems to be very effective. No obvious restriction on deflection.
After that landing, me and the flight crew would be closing out the airport bar, ab=nd they wouldn't pay for a thing!
