Repeal Washington D.C. home rule

Congress should strip DC of all governing power and take direct control.  This is all you need to see to come to that conclusion:
After being injured on his second tour of duty in Afghanistan, Lt. Augustine Kim spent the night in a D.C. jail for possessing unregistered guns.
Mr. Kim was transporting his firearms from his parents’ house in New Jersey to South Carolina when he stopped at Walter Reed in Washington for a medical appointment in the summer of 2010.
After being pulled over, handcuffed, arrested, thrown in jail overnight, his guns were confiscated by the city.
I have a better idea: fire the Washington D.C. police force and replace them all. Think this is excessive?  Well, here's your Washington D.C. police in action:
The veteran spent a “few hours in the drunk tank,” then was moved to the central jail. It was cold on the steel slab, so he asked the police guard for a blanket. “He was surly with me and sarcastic. He said, ‘Oh you want blankets? Well they’re back ordered,’” Mr. Kim recalled. “I remember thinking, we treated detainees in Afghanistan better than this.

Washington D.C. is purely a creature of the Federal government: literally, it would not exist but as the Republic's capital.  Arresting a veteran who was engaged in inter state travel because he had been injured fighting a foreign war and had stopped at the military hospital for medical care?  This is so clearly disproportional that the D.C. Government should be stripped of its power.  Dissolved.

Quite frankly, Democrats, this is why we question your patriotism.

Librals spat on returning troops after VN, too, as I recall. Stealing their stuff is just escalation.

FOPA doesn't protect you unless your trip is between two points where the firearm is legal. In this case, the stop at Walter Reed is considered the final destination for his first trip.

And yes, this sucks.

Rope. Tall tree.

Did you read about the latest brilliance coming out of Detroit? A city groundskeeper found a handgun on the lawn he was working on. He secured the firearm and turned it into the police. He was then fired for possessing a weapon on work property.

@ Broken Andy - Your reading of the statute is correct. The solution is to replace FOPA with a full and complete understanding of the Second Amendment that reads: "If it's legal anywhere, it's legal everywhere. Now STFU."

@ Borepatch - Having grown up in the District of Corruption, I disagree with your solution. Placing control of D.C. in the hands of Congress will result only in a slightly higher grade of professional corruption and incompetence. The solution is to reduce the District of Columbia to the absolute bare minimum land area necessary to house a very, very much smaller federal government, place that postage stamp into the hands of Congress, and return the remainder to Maryland, unless Virginia is stupid enough to want a part of it, too.

The Peoples' Republic of Maryland would be only a slightly better solution than the current D.C. government, but, having lived in both places, I think they deserve it. Good and hard.

Relocate the capital and it's feral inhabitants to Death valley. However because of EPA restrictions I'm sure the water supply shall be nonexistent.

Hey???

Death Valley is only 50 miles away from here. What the heck did we do to you to deserve that?

I truly think that areturn of tar-and-feathering would have a wonderfully beneficial effect for our nation.

The District was run quite well under the Board of Commissioners.
One member was a Brigadier from the Corps of Engineers who oversaw the physical condition of the city. No pot-hole then!
Another member was a lawyer appointed by the DoJ. He made sure all city business was conducted in a legal(!) manner.
The third member was from the Chamber of Commerce and looked after the interests of the city's businesses. And it worked!
As for Lt. Lee's firearms; they've been pawned or sold to other MPD officer by the property clerk.
Virginia got its portion of The District back in 1840s. There is no civilization north of the Potomac.

"we treated detainees in Afghanistan better than this."
A. they weren't Americans, and B., the brasshats were afraid to make'em mad.

Give the place over to the Marines.
Problem solved!
Probably a lot of problems solved, as the morlocks would be confronted with a security force that patrols effectively and fights back, also effectively.
It would also solve the problem of drunken Congressmen who think they have special dispensation or something.
