BP- Ms. Abby advised he's an airplane guy; I don't know if it has changed, but the rate was ones "job", like MOS in the ground services. Chiefs start @ E-7, the pay grade, associated with rank.
So he's now an ADC: a Chief Aviation Machinist's Mate-- a jet engine mechanic. Basically a combination between a civilian A&P and an airport lineman. They do it all, except the ordnance stuff.
The ADs own the airplanes. The pilots only get to borrow them. And a smart nasal radiator understands that.

He's an AD and we are very excited for this new adventure! Thanks All!
Doubletrouble, I don't know. I've been told that the lowerChief rate is E-6, but that may be wrong.
The lower Chief rate is E-7. I think she meant what his specialty was. Good on him for making Chief.
