"The most effective portable firearm in existence"

From New York City, no less. Different world.

UPDATE 11 March 2009 8:25: Welcome, visitor's from View From The Porch! Thanks for the link, Tam. Take a look around folks - I've got a few more like this in the Nostalgia tag.

UPDATE 11 March 2009 9:27: In the comments, ASM826 asks,
Ever fire a Thompson? Lots of fun if you have a crate of .45acp you need to covert into noise.
It is indeed.

#1 Son and Tommy. Picture taken with a Treo camera phone, which may explain the blur.

But yes, you need a crate of ammo.

Remember that at the time of this ad, there were still roving gangs of bank robbers, and the memories of Pancho Villa's incursions along the southern border were still fresh in everyone's memories.

I won a match in 2007 that included a full auto component using a 1928 Thompson (not mine, unfortunately).

That firing from the hip stuff? Just for the ads. Start shooting like that that and all you'll have is an empty gun and dead horses. Hold it up and aim, and you can control it like a hose.
