Two great blogs going up on the blogroll.
Robert from Blackfork has been doing a superb series on the battle for the Alamo - sort of a retrospective liveblogging that wipes the dust off the history and brings old bones back to life, as breathing, thinking, acting men.
Both my regular readers know that I'm a history buff, and Robert was kind enough to recommend two books for folks (like me) who would like a little more time with M. Crockett and Bowie. The Texian Iliad by Stephen Hardin seems available in paperback, while The Blood of Noble Men, The Alamo by Allen Huffines seems only in Hardcover. (So off to the library!)
Filed under People Eating Tasty Animals because he also has hunting stories. Unlike my hunting stories, he comes back with something yummy.
Also added is Sevesteen, a fellow Linux-bigot gun nut who also has a hobby collecting and fixing mechanical watches. Now as someone who owns not one, but two wind-up watches, let me say that this isn't something that you see every day. Thank you, Al Gore, for these wonderful Intertubes where we can get seriously cool stuff like this, all from the comfort of our own houses!
If you ever have a watch that you think is Russian but fear is Chinese, he's your man. He might even be able to get it fixed for you. By Midnight. Mother.
