This is painfully close to the story as depicted in the film. The Republicans have chosen an un-scary candidate, actually the least scariest of the primary candidates. The reason that Romney got such a bounce from the first debate is because after months of ZOMG Romney killed subdood's wife he came across as entirely un-scary. The Democrat's narrative is collapsing because everyone can see that what they've heard about his is a bunch of bollocks.
But Kevin is right - Romney is an establishment Republican to the core, and is backed by the GOP establishment to the hilt. He is unlikely to make necessary changes that make the GOP establishment uncomfortable. And so, while he is entirely un-scary, he is entirely capable of bumbling around and causing huge damage. In a friendly sort of way:
"I tried to think of the most harmless thing...something that could never, ever possibly destroy us....Mr. Stay Puft!"
It's not malicious, other than that whole end-of-the-world thing. Maybe the Tea Party can cross the streams ...

Oh, but according to Salon, Romney's a hardcore right wing extremist...
Link tomorrow. I've got a post brewin'...
Well, ever since the Giant Slor dropped out of the race, the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man has been the only option left.
We can't afford four more years of the large and moving Torb.
