Divemedic has some thoughts that are worth your time. The Silicon Graybeard does his preps. We're battened down for the fifth storm in the four years we've been here.
Good luck to the folks in the Florida panhandle, who must be getting really sick of all this.

The closer to sea level and the closer to the coast (it's Florida, not always the same thing...) the more one has to worry about the storms.
Though, well, I've been here since '73 and every hurricane is supposed to have wiped out the barrier islands along the east coast, like the ones in Brevard County (Patrick Space Force Base, the whole Cape Canaveral area.)
Though getting stuff up off the floor, getting flyable stuff out of the yard and making sure dead limbs are cleared out before the winds send them scurrying seems to be the best thing.
And having basic preps.
My big thing? Taking a nice long hot shower before the storm hits, so that I'm starting out nice and clean in case we lose power.
One of the reasons I now live in Texas...
Praying for everyone. Be safe and God bless.
Hope you had a mild storm and have power now. It was pretty mild over here and remarkably dry. Probably the driest storm I've ever gone through. I heard people mowing lawns until just about the peak of it, like 3PM. Being a bit on the breezy side means less work for your leaf blower.
