You wonder what other music he would have made if he hadn't been found hanged in a jail cell in the '80s. He's "the best guitarist most people have never heard of".
Two of my friends played (at different times) with him while still in high school. I met him a few times. Came across as shy and sincere. I caught up with Dave on my birthday a few years ago. He played Buchanan and Hooker tunes the whole night for me.
He played at my college homecoming in 1975 and made me a fan that night. I wore out a copy of Livestock on my stereo. His song Hawaiian Punch has the same kind of guitar work.
My favorite song for a long time was These Arms of Mine.
