Borepatch, I linked it too. It is one of the most thoughtful pieces I have read in a long time - so thoughtful, in fact, I had to read it three times before I could comment.
The picture accompanying the column, those men were not new guys. Bone-deep tired tells of a front line soldier every time. My father, several uncles, cousins, two sons and one daughter went, nephews, as did I. One great-great-grandfather in the 11th Texas Cavalry. We all would go again, but the next one might not require as long a travel.
