Apropos nothing

My parents were strong supporters of the Democratic Party and so we grew up with a fair amount of Democratic Party hagiography - stories of past great people to inspire the masses in the party.  For example, we heard often about how poor Harry Truman was pennyless when he left office and was only saved from penury when Congress passed an act giving a generous pension to former Presidents.

Alas, it seems it was all a crock, and Truman was a big fat liar.

I had heard rumors about that. Interesting to find out that it was true...

This is a surprise. Harry was a Democrat and a life long politician. Neither recommends his honesty.

Still, in context to other Democrats, he was much more truthful.

Sad, isn't it? That a liar is the best they can field, amongst all the corrupt, pandering, womanizing, outright fabricated existences of all the other candidates.

Even sainted JFK (hwack, ptooie) who was only better than Teddy because he died younger.

Don't even get me started on Saint FDR of the 'my secretary is in the room next to me so I can access her quickly for 'secretarial' work' (insert Bow-chicky-wow-wow music.) And his love for all things Communist and Dictatorial, setting the stage for Jimmy the Dhimmi Carter to do the same...

Has there ever been a Democrat President who wasn't corrupt as copulation? Bueller? Bueller???

Uncle Bob used to say that politics selects for the psychopaths among us, regardless of political stripe. He believed - as do I, now - that an honest man would get torn to shreds. This leads into other bad thoughts: that TPTB are never seen, and exert their power through paid actors in our political machines. They are controlled with blackmail and their own psychotic appetites.

On the other hand, folks like mud, scandal and slander. Who knows what's true in this day and age.

Sigh. 20 years ago when Mom worked in D.C... The girls in her office came back giggling because they had run into Harry on his daily walk and he raised his hat and bid them good day.

It should also be remembered that Truman was also a creation of Boss Pendergast's political machine out of KC. That should have been a major tipoff.

Maybe Dewey really did defeat Truman?
