Suicide Bombers target crowds in tight places. Your only choice (defensively) is to disperse the crowds - instead of one airport, ply from ten. The Biden administration has precluded this - Baghram is now under Taliban control and the only airport for hundreds of miles is Kabul. And so the crowds can't disperse.
And the US military can't outsource crowd control security, either. Anyone who could handle this is trying to get on a flight out. So our Marines will be on the front lines for the next five days.
I wish I could put into words how angry I am right now.

The Taliban are not a civilized enemy. They are a loose affiliation of savage warlords, each with his own agenda, and sometimes those agendas are congruent. Their own people are being mass murdered in droves right now. For every American there are thousands of dead mud flaps. Even if Joe weren’t a vegetable and could negotiate coherently… there is no one over there to negotiate with. Believe it or not, Americans are being treated the same as everyone else. Maintain perspective. Joe and his team bungled the evacuation through criminal negligence and incompetence. By rights he should be impeached, any number of brass hats in the services should be court martialed.
Unfortunately our judiciaries are equally as corrupt, incompetent and clueless as the administration. Your problem is at home, guys. Your enemies in this are at home, and they are in charge. Your enemies are domestic.
i have been watching every takeoff they show on the news with fear and loathing because sooner or later some asshat will bring one of those stingers or javelins or whatever we left behind and shoot it right up the tailpipe of a c17 with 800 people on it.

Suicide bombers targeting crowds is exactly why you don't want to use checkpoints for security. There will always be a crowd in front of the checkpoint, outside the security perimeter.
