One of my favorite stories that resurfaced in the last few years was when the communist Vietnamese government representatives went to a convention in India and said the stupidest thing they ever did was institute rent controls. “The Americans couldn’t destroy Hanoi, but we have destroyed our city by very low rents. We realized it was stupid and that we must change policy."
The kicker: this was in 1989. And we still hear various socialists calling for rent controls - really just another form of price control. "How does it feel to be more stupid than a communist?"

Nixon tried this in the early 1970s. It was a disaster then and it will be a disaster now.

Neither did Nixon apparently. This has been tried thousands of times and always failed.
