Country Joe McDonald - Save The Whales

52 years ago today, the Oregon Highway Division tried to remove a whale carcass.  With dynamite

Now there's a country music song for just about anything, but not this.  The closest I could find was this one from Country Joe McDonald (front man for Country Joe and the Fish).  It's very 1970s earnest but that makes it a bit of a time capsule.  Looking back, you can see just how much has changed in the last half century.

It's raining whale steaks !!!
Old story about my great uncle when he was a township supervisor.
He used dynamite to blow up a tree stump along a creek and then spent 3 days hauling gravel to fill the hole in !

That's actually a pretty decent tune, I used to have the album.

Country Joe turned 80 last January 1, and I don't think he is performing now, but he still has a website CountryJoe.com) where you can go to his store and order many of his albums. It is a bit different than other sites. Place your order, and in a few days he will email you with the invoice, which you can pay with credit card. In 1971 he did the War, War, War album of selected Robert W. Service poems set to music. He never performed them publicly, and the album only sold about 100,000. People kept contacting him for a copy, but the publisher wasn't interested in re-publishing. So, 39 years after recording it in a studio, he did the album again in a live performance and you can buy it from him today. It makes a great gift for the veterans in your life. The Man From Athabasca is a great story, and you have to wonder if the old boy survived to return to his cabin. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qbdQq40xOHM

Please note that Country Joe's YouTube channel has only 986 subscribrers. YouTube won't monetize a channel until it has 1000, so Joe is not being compensated for ads that YT puts on his videos. Subscribe if you like Joe and maybe he can get a few nickels from YouTube.
