Quote of the Day - Combat Mindset edition

Bitter Centurion posts about the Combat Mindset, amplifying my thoughts on the matter and getting QotD:

Because at the end of the day, it's all well and good to have the gun on you. It's even better to get the trigger time and put lead down range and be able to hit gongs on demand with razor sharp speed and accuracy. But if you don't have your mind right when it's time to slay the dragon, that gun is nothing more than extra weight on your belt that doesn't do you or anyone else any good.

You really should read his entire post which has a lot of practical experience.  And you should read the comments which are a good - if dismaying - view into the Reindeer Games being played with police forces by Woke politicians.

That is a good one, and concur, definitely worth reading!

Can't activate comments there.

Interesting that the RCMP has a hit average of 26%. The best in the US is the CHP, with a 25% hit percentage. The average across the US is something like 12-15%.
I expect that part of the problem is that the blue enclaves instituted a ban on hiring gun culture applicants for their police academies back in the mid 90's. If you eliminate people that learned to shoot as kids, you have really handicapped your dept. In addition, they are the ones that are most likely to be shooting/training on their own dime, since they probably like to shoot. NONE of the police depts have enough funds to keep the average cop training/practicing often enough to maintain their shooting ability.

That seems to be one of the side benefits of learning to shoot as a child, you get hardwired for that talent. Your ability doesn't disappear if you don't shoot every week or so. Along that line, I've talked to cops over the years that have stated that "they only shoot when it is on the dept's dime". Totally unwilling to buy their own ammo, let alone go shooting if they are not on the clock. BTW, the CHP shoots every month on the dept's time. Most wait until the clock is about to run out, and then run to the range, as they loose certification to patrol if they have not made the range qualification for the month.

Forgot to add that people that learn to shoot as youngsters may also take up hunting. It's not a given, but those who hunt are more likely to be willing to shoot bad guys, as opposed to the (nowadays) larger group that doesn't hunt at all. Another useful factor that the cops have given up by banning shooters from joining the force.
