Why can't America be more like Europe?

"Eco-Friendly" German to open one new coal fired electricity generation plant a month in 2013.

If only our unilateralist cowboy President would listen to our European allies ...

As is usually the case, economics will trump feelings of moral superiority. It's hard to throw an Earth Day party if you don't have the spare cash.

Yeah, reminds me, I have some Earth Day quotes somewhere... And MONEY does trump all (sooner or later).

Slackers. They wouldn't need all of those coal plants if they'd just clear the snow off of their nifty green solar panels.

The trouble is that the solar panels are being used inefficiently -- only in daylight hours.

If one uses fossil fuels to shine lights at the solar panels at night, then much more of their power needs may be met with renewable energy.

They should be able to power their grid from the tears of their hippies, now!

Oh, but Borepatch, you don't get it. You see, when the Europeans set up coal fired power plants, they feel really, really bad about it.

The problem is that we Americans are unapologetic in our energy usage, and don't even have the common goddamned courtesy to feel really bad about it, much less really, really bad. If we could only self-flagellate like they could, why, we'd almost certainly be initiated into their club of enlightenment.

heh. Self-flagellate. That kind of sounds dirty, doesn't it?
