Bravo Zulu, Coasties

A cruise ship got stuck in the ice off Antarctica, and the Coast Guard (by chance) had an icebreaker nearby.  Well done.

I helped rebuild the pony boiler on the Polar Start back in '93. Good to see she's still steaming.

Ah, yes. the Coast Guard's "Polar Pigs." There were only two of them; the WAGB (Arctic-Going Boat) Polar Star and the Polar Sea. They were called "polar pigs" because they rolled like a football in the water because of their round bottoms. I can't believe either of the "Polar Class" breakers are still seaworthy! If Trump is serious about having any kind of influence in the Northern Passage, he needs to get a few more icebreaker keels laid!
