He had a sense of humor as big as the Atlantic Ocean.

He was widely ascribed as making one of the greatest off-the-cuff remarks in Oscar history.

Only much, much later did it come out that Niven himself had seen to it that the gentleman in question was admitted to the proceedings and ensconced backstage, making his debut at the appropriate time.

That's showmanship.
But it wasn't class.
It was master class. In comedy.
