Um, maybe he really is mentally ill

So the California dude got taken to observation in a psych ward.  Yeah, he had 100 guns and a million rounds of ammo.  Yeah, people are freaking out about Black Helicopters.

Maybe everyone should take a nice, deep breath and chill the heck out:
GLENDORA - Police confiscated more than 100 shotguns, rifles and pistols during an early morning raid Friday at the home of a man who is suspected of exposing himself at Wal-Mart in Glendora.

...

The home was so cluttered with boxes and other items that it was difficult for officers to maneuver inside the house. Staab said he's never seen anything like it before.

“Every room was just stacked to the rafters with boxes,” Staab said. “There's a television show out there called 'Hoarders' that this house would certainly compete with.”

Police served the warrant after they received two reports of a man strolling around Wal-Mart and exposing his genitalia.

After reviewing store surveillance footage, police identified Steiner, Staab said.

“Clear as day you can see him ... exposing himself to numerous people,” Staab said.

“He would walk up and down the aisle, look, and when someone passed by he would reach to his crotch area and expose his genitalia and walk around, and then cover himself back up and continue looking,” he said.

A woman first reported that her 9- and 11-year-old children witnessed the behavior on July 4. She did not report the incident to police, however, until days later, Staab said.
Look, nobody knows better than I the abuses done by Statist Bastards in the name of government control.  But dude who live the packrat lifestyle and expose themselves to kids in Walmart may just be, you know, mentally ill.

Me, I'm willing to let this play out before passing judgement.

Sure, crazy as a sh**house rat.

Do you think the firearms and ammo are going to be auctioned off with the rest of the stuff in the house?

Yea, neither did I.

Gotta say - I think I'm OK with this guy being disarmed.

well ain't that a purty picture...my line of thinking is more along the lines of Thomas Szasz. this perv exhibited criminal behavior--being handed a get out of jail free card by way of a psych diagnosis is not a solution...all it does is give some mental health "professionals" permission to subvert Justice.

Criminal conduct is not an illness, it is just criminal conduct. Labeling pervs "mentally ill" would however activate the process by which his firearms would be taken.

There are those who state as fact their belief that guns kill people. This is a ploy used to get guns out of the hands of the people. Especially if it can effectively and efficiently achieved by using deceit and using a social control strategy to disguise the actual intent of this agenda.

Treating criminal behavior with drugs while telling a criminal that the drugs are treating a disease which has yet to even be identified; but supposedly it is the cause of their criminal behavior allows the criminal to abdicate responsibility altogether. Some think that giving people who are criminal and therefore harmful to others an excuse to believe they "just can't help it" is a good thing. I'm not one of them. Being responsible and accountable is a necessity. Those who neglect this and cause harm to others are criminals who need to be brought to justice, not given an excuse.

If we turn all actions into mental illness then it's so watered down, that people believe scenes like this are depicted as the norm, and this is dangerous as there's a chance that that society is basically ALL mentally ill...medicalizing emotions, situations and even criminal behaviors are what the DSM5 and pharma cos want you to do. The guy here is a perv (Walmart)and a pack rat, but I can tell you one thing that will result in his psych eval. He WILL lose all gun rights even though he wasn't packing one at Walmart, and he WILL be discharged on psych meds, and labeled mentally ill, discharged into a system that has no other help for him except pills.

Involuntary commitment, renders gun permit loss and loss of guns for ANY ONE in Wa state. That's right, Borepatch let's say you became depressed, and Mrs BP committed you, and you were held for 72 hours, you lose those permits and guns no matter why you were in the psych ward.

I am NOT excusing this guy's behavior. Also, there is a proposed outrageous DSM5 label for ppl like that guy called "minor attracted', I kid you not, and that will give these ppl excuses of "but i have mental illness'.

A crime is a crime, bust him for Walmart and leave his hoarding alone.

I wasn't as clear in my post as I should have been. I don't know that this guy is mentally ill. However, the Walmart and pack rat behavior seem odd, to say the least. I'm withholding judgement until I hear more.

But yeah, he should be running around WallyWorld flashing kids.

The reason I posted was that I saw a few places where they were focusing on the gun thing, and turning this guy into some sort of Second Amendment martyr. Maybe he is, but I'm withholding judgement for noe.

"But yeah, he should be running around WallyWorld flashing kids."

You might want to correct that.

Anyway, wanna take bets that if he is found mentally unstable the condition is not reported to the NCIC because the big press release about OMG GUNS! is already over so no need for attention to this case?

Andy, heh. That comment inadvertently got the Pedobear seal of approval. Typing fail.

But your comment on the half life of the PR is a good one.

While he was walking around the store, was he singing "This is my rifle, this is my gun..."?

I don't see any reason why he should be adjudicated mentally ill when he might just be a pervert. Which is a crime, not mental illness.

Either way, he's going to lose his 2nd amendment rights.

ASM826, too bad there won't be an auction, because I'm pretty sure I saw at least one Enfield and I'll bet there are plenty of other C&R eligible firearms as well.

Sadly, they and lawful collectors will become collateral damage.
