10 War movie actors who served in combat

This is pretty cool:

Lots that's predictable, but a lot that's new.  Christopher Lee makes the list, but as we all know he was a badass.  I hadn't known that Clark Gable flew combat missions.  Oh, and Jimmy Stewart wasn't on the list but should have been.

But interesting.

There were dozens and dozens of o!d school Hollywood actors who served and served well during WW2. From Eddie Albert (Green Acres) to James Doohan (Scotty from Star Trek). It truly was the Greatest Generation.

Don "Get Smart" Adams fought at Guadalcanal, and had to be medically evacuated due to complications of malaria.

After he recovered, he became a drill instructor. According to Wikipedia, he was also a highly regarded marksman.

Gable signed up - enlisted - after Carole Lombard's untimely death.
He was a B-17 waist gunner for multiple missions, until some s.o.b. in the Air Corps decided to make him an officer just to use him for war bond PR.
He didn't have a death wish, but by all accounts he really would have rather been taking his chances in combat and killing Nazis.

The list of actors who served in WWII is long and distinguished.

The list of current working actors under the age of 80 who've even served could be counted on one's fingers, if not thumbs.
