There are really two reasons behind the push for registration. One, of course, is the confiscation aspect. The other is revenue. Any registration scheme or mandated background checks with a tracking record will not be free - there will be a charge, ostensibly to cover the cost of the process but eventually rising to ugly levels (maybe along with the rationale to offset the costs of "gun violence"). How much does it cost you every year to register your car(s)? Now multiply that by the number of guns you own.
I could support some form of a blind, trackless background check, as described. Any form of registration is a no go.
I don't really believe in the existence of privacy that works. Especially when the FBI is involved. They are both malicious and incompetent and either would compromise privacy. So count me as opposed unless someone can convince me that this would actually work as advertised.
