This just in

House hunting can be fun - it's all fantasy and dreams.

House buying is a pain in the tail end - it's reality, and a reality that I quite frankly don't find particularly, err, dreamy.

We're in the hunting stage right now, looking to buy in about 18 months.

Since we'll be in Fort Collins for Thanksgiving, we'll drive by some of the properties I've got saved in my ziprealty folder to get an idea of the neighborhoods.

Tell us about it! Miss D. and I are in the process of buying a house in Texas . . . from Nashville, TN. The flood of e-mails, text messages, phone calls, scanned documents, and so on, all flashing to and fro over hundreds of miles, is enough to swamp us on some days. Then there's the "You need to take out this sentence in that letter" or "Please initial this change to page 9 of form X, and scan it, and send it right back so the sellers can sign it too" . . .

AAAAAARGH!

House buying is hemorrhoid surgery with a rusty butter knife and no anesthesia. Having gone through a number of corporate relocations, even with a relo outfit backing you up and free movers, calling it a PITA is a gross understatement.

Other than it would still require the same hassles and aggravation buying a lot plus all the shortomings of the device, I can appreciate the concept of a mobile home - put the wheels back under what you've already bought and take it with you.

Just make sure you don't sign a HOA covenant among all the other paperwork.

Being a Ham operator, and having antennas, HOA's or other covenents will get very closely examined.

Most likely we'll just walk away from any properties under those restrictions.....
