Starbuck's blogging

Normally I'd be at work, but we put Little One-Eyed Dog down this morning. Her cancer was aggressive, and it would have been cruel to let her go on like this. And so I wanted to just stop for a minute.

It reminds me of being at the airport, really, only nicer and without luggage. Lots of SWPL types on iPads. And us. Oh, and their bacon, egg, and Gouda sandwich is pretty good.

Go, Starbuck's.

I'm so sorry, buddy. You did the right thing. Decisions like that are part of our end of the bargain between man and dog.

Sorry to hear of your loss BP, that is probably the hardest part of having animals in the family. . .

I'm so sorry.

That is a path that we all take. It is never easy.

I'll have you and your lovely bride in my thoughts.

I'm on my lunch break on the eebook and just saw this. It was just a few days ago we talked on the phone about the pooches. I'm so sorry my friend. Comfort Mrs. B. and remember all the happiness the little one gave you.

Should we give our hearts to a dog to tear? We know we shouldn't, and yet we do. My condolences on your loss.

I'm sorry to hear that BP. It's hard to lose a friend.

Dood. thoughts are with you and your family.

I know the pain.

It never gets better, just realize that time will blunt the edges.

It is unfair that they live shorter lives than we do, and that we have to make these decisions.

We are with ya, bro.

I'm so sorry to hear about Little One-Eyed Dog. It's the hard part about being the person for our furry companions. She's not hurting or afraid but the doggy shaped hole they leave in our hearts is forever, but y'all did what was best for her.

Wow, sorry to hear that. It's a painful loss, but a proper decision made. Great memories made over the years I know!

My sympathies to your family. We had to put down our 14 year old Shepard mix last April. We have his ashes in an urn on a bookcase overlooking his favorite area on the rug.

Your faithful companion is enjoying the sun and the doggie treats near the Rainbow Bridge. She'll be waiting for youwhen it is your time to cross.

So sorry to hear about your loss - they are members of the family, and it can hurt.

Thank you everybody. It was a mercy at the end when she finally relaxed and her breathing wasn't labored any more.

She was a real hellion, and sneaky, and drove Mrs. B crazy, but she was a sweet dog that was a lot of fun before she got so sick.

I'm glad we were there to do the right thing for her in the end. She was indeed one of the family, warts and all, and it was her due.

Watching it, I thought that if I face that same end, I'd want to go that way myself.

When the body that lived at your single will
When the whimper of welcome is stilled (how still!)
When the spirit that answered your every mood
Is gone–wherever it goes–for good,
You still discover how much you care
And will give your heart to a dog to tear.

Not an easy time, I know. Kipling said it so well!

I'm so sorry, Borepatch. The blessing - and curse - of being allergic to most animals is that we've avoided furry pets...

As good and joyful as mine."

BP, I am so, so sorry for your loss.

Little One-Eyed Dog sounds a lot like Scooter, our beloved Bichon. We had to put him to sleep this past July. He had cancer as well.

I know that any words of sympathy I can offer will likely be futile, but just know that you gave her many long, happy years, and that she loved you and your family absolutely, with the pure trust and devotion that only a dog can give.

Your and yours will be in my prayers. Hang tough.
